Montes Winery |
| This winery is well known by the most important wine magazines, and it is considered among the best ones in Chile. It has the leadership in the revolution of quality of the 80’s and 90’s. Located in Colchagua Valley, "Finca de Apalta" is an essential part of the well-known Apalta Valley. Tinguiririca River forms a natural wall within this isolated area. In the north, a high mountain range helps to filter the soft ocean breeze that has a strong influence in the weather of Apalta. This area is semicircular and it has deep slopes (45°), whose plantation is oriented to the south. This gives the plants a gentle exposition to the sun. In the slopes the temperature is lower, which causes a slow, but more complete grape ripening. Its well-known wines are, among others, Montes alpha, Montes alpha M, purple angel, Montes folly. It has vineyards in the area of Marchigue, Curicó and Apalta as well as in Mendoza, Argentina, from where it has a world reputation wine “KAIKEN”. The tour is in Apalta, and it is done by opened vehicles “Safari trucks”, going up the hills, from where all the beauty of the valley can be appreciated.
